It's almost the middle of August, which means less then a month till school starts. I'm not sure about you, but I may be a tad ready for school. I've enjoyed having the kids home, but we've had a few others kids here as well. Needless to say it's been a bit hectic. Not much time for anything else.
Thankfully this was a simple an easy new recipe I had to try. A friend of mine has just recently introduced me to essential oils. I don't know much about them and had definitely never tried them. So I decided to just start small. We were talking about different health needs and I mentioned how sometimes sleep doesn't always come easy to my kiddos. So with that being said, the first one I tried was Lavender.
Before I even diffused it at bed time I had a thought. A fellow blogger on Instagram posted a picture of a lavender cake. Quick google search allowed me to see you can indeed ingest this particular oil. Apparently lavender and lemon make a nice pairing. I decided to make some simple lemon cupcakes with a lavender buttercream.
All it took was 1-2 drops in your regular buttercream recipe (click here for our classic buttercream recipe). No more then that or the flavor would be too strong. On its own I felt it was too strong a floraly taste for my liking, but paired with the lemon it was perfection. The two flavors fused together perfectly.
I followed our perfect buttercream recipe from a previous blog post, but I used all butter this time, as opposed to have butter half shortening. I then add 2 drops of Lavender EO. I used DoTerra but you can use whatever brand you prefer. You can add 1 or 2 depending on how strong a flavor you prefer. I then added some purple food coloring just for funsies :)
Why not wow your guests with an unusual but intriguing flavor options ;)
