I love when basic kindergarten crafts can be applied to cakes! :)
I have been admiring these water color cakes on Instagram. You know the one? They look like a canvas masterpiece but really it's a fondant cake! I have this desire to make one, but don't feel confidant in my painting abilities.
I was on Pinterest when I saw the idea of painting with celery. I thought why can't you do that on cake? I wasn't sure what would be the right consistency of paint would be. So I experimented a bit. I tried using the gel food coloring with water, but I found that it was too runny. The second time I just dipped my paint brush directly into the gel food coloring container, and painted right on the celery. When I pressed the celery on the fondant cake it made the perfect print.
Such a simple idea and it takes no time at all. Perfect idea to do with kids who want to make something fancy on their own. The finished product is stunning and elegant! Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you!
Note that this was printed on a fondant covered cake!
